Our History

Collegiate Women of Color was launched in February of 2000 by two Hofstra students, Takita Mason and Tanisha Thompson.  These women wanted to give women of color a forum where they could discuss issues such as racism, sexism, dating and relationships.  These women also felt that the situation among women of color on Hofstra's campus was in dire need of change.  They felt that instead of being unified and supportive, women of color were competitive and filled with attitude and aggression towards each other.  They decided that they wanted to form, not only a club, but also an organization that would promote education, unity, culture, and feminist ideals.  CWC is not a sorority.  We do however promote sisterhood to the highest level.

Our Goal

C.W.C is for and about women, we aim to facilitate information sharing, and encourage unity among women.

We hope to expand CWC in other schools, and with the help and dedication of our members, we can.  If you are interested in doing something for our little community, you can start by bringing your fellow sisters together.
